My story
After I was sexually assaulted, I did what survivors are told to do. I reported it, and I had a sexual assault evidence kit collected. Then I waited more than a year for results, one of over a thousand Colorado survivors stuck in the state's backlog.
I decided I wasn't going to wait quietly. I spoke up about the backlog, and in 2025 Colorado passed the Miranda Gordon Justice for Survivors Act. The law requires that survivors get updates on their kits at least every 90 days, and it creates a statewide review board to improve how Colorado responds to sexual assault. It carries my name, but it belongs to every survivor who has ever been told to be patient.
Where the stitching came in
While all of that was happening, I needed somewhere to put my hands and my mind. Embroidery and cross-stitch became that place. On the hardest days, it gave me something quiet, something I could control, and something beautiful to show for it at the end.
It started as an escape. Stitch by stitch, it became a way back to myself.
Feral Floss is how I share that with anyone else who's in a tough spot. You don't need experience or an art background. You just need a needle, some thread, and maybe a phrase that says exactly what you're feeling.
Giving back
I didn't heal alone. Advocates, organizers, and fellow survivors held me up when I couldn't do it myself, and I want to give back to that community. That's the heart of our sexual assault awareness line. A portion of proceeds from every kit in the line will go to a nonprofit supporting survivors, and we'll announce our partner soon.
